For World of Dance, Houston, I decided I wanted to dance and vibe to a R&B song from the early 2000's. The song is called “Missyou” by Musiq Soul Child.
World of Dance Colorado 2018 | Dance Freestyle
This footage is from when I judged and performed for World of Dance Colorado a couple weeks back. I’ve been bouncing back and forth between current songs and crate digs from my childhood. As I’m doing this more, I’m finding that in the songs that I choose, there similarities in the artists voice and tone. For me, the tone and bounce of the melody strikes me more than the lyrics do (i’m one of those lyrics.com people). After the performance, one of the World of Dance staff members complimented me on choose to dance to a female rapper which I thought was interesting. Its not a conscious choice that I make, choosing to dance between male and female artists. I didn’t know that was a thing. I mean, I don’t think it’s bad if people do that, I think i can understand why. It was just never in my consideration when choosing a song to perform but I think it’s interesting. Is the gender of the artist a consideration when you decide what song you want to choreograph/teach/perform to? Let me know your thoughts.

World of Dance Atlanta 2018 | Dance Performance
Last weekend, I freestyled to "Let Me Blow Your Mind" by Eve and Gwen Stefani for the World Of Dance Atlanta 2018. This is such a throwback 90's hip hop song. I've loved this song for so long and have never taught class, taken dance class, choreographed, nor performed it and this seemed like a good opportunity to showcase this song and my love for it to an audience and demographic that might not know it. A couple of dancers came up to me afterwards needing to know the name of this song.
My work here is done.
Maybe I should do a bunch of songs that I've loved but never have performed to. I have a couple more World of Dance Showcases and this seems like a pretty good opportunity to share music from another era that are amazing but doesn't really make the rotations in current playlists. Anyone got any suggestions?
