This footage is from when I judged and performed for World of Dance Colorado a couple weeks back. I’ve been bouncing back and forth between current songs and crate digs from my childhood. As I’m doing this more, I’m finding that in the songs that I choose, there similarities in the artists voice and tone. For me, the tone and bounce of the melody strikes me more than the lyrics do (i’m one of those lyrics.com people). After the performance, one of the World of Dance staff members complimented me on choose to dance to a female rapper which I thought was interesting. Its not a conscious choice that I make, choosing to dance between male and female artists. I didn’t know that was a thing. I mean, I don’t think it’s bad if people do that, I think i can understand why. It was just never in my consideration when choosing a song to perform but I think it’s interesting. Is the gender of the artist a consideration when you decide what song you want to choreograph/teach/perform to? Let me know your thoughts.
